Friday 5th PM & Saturday 6th AM - Näver Weaving with Kerstin Sylwan (1 or 2 days)

from SEK 950.00
11 available

Birch bark is an amazing material that has been used by people throughout history. It is waterproof, flexible and very durable. Learn the basics of weaving while creating your own birch bark object.

For two days, product designer and birch bark crafter Kerstin Sylwan will come to Borkfest for a workshop in birch bark weaving.
Birch bark is a fantastic material full of possibilities. During the workshop, you will learn different techniques used to create objects from birch bark, such as weaving, tamping, folding and sewing. You will also learn more about birch bark as a material, its history and traditions. For weaving birch bark, no special prior knowledge is needed. Depending on whether you participate for one or two days, you can make, for example, a small bag, a bowl, a basket or a bread dish during the workshop. Plus something small if time allows.
Feel free to bring some ideas with you for the workshop, but if you are unsure, you can decide after getting to know the material and seeing examples. Together we will assess what is reasonable to do and what you can possibly finish at home.
