Florence Hamer (she/her)
Flo Hamer is a craftswoman specialising in traditional basketry and green woodworking. Her work centres around a passion for endangered crafts, the people and stories behind them, and a desire to keep these heritage skills alive.
Flo is a full time maker and teacher, based in Bristol, UK. Taking inspiration from the past, from traditional and vernacular styles of basketry and woodworking, she creates work for the present, whilst preserving skills for our future.
She has a strong connection to the woods she works with, using local materials, harvested in sensitive and environmentally conscious ways. She believes that everyone should have access to craft; to our shared history and heritage, to the hands that came before; who wove, turned, and carved the future for us.
Flo is a member of the King’s Foundation ‘35 under 35’ network, and is a QEST and King’s Foundation alumni. In 2025 Flo was a finalist in the Heritage Crafts ‘England Maker of the Year’ award. In 2023, she was winner of best Contemporary Basket in the ‘Basketry of the Year’ competition held by the Basketmakers Association and she had a piece of work shortlisted in the Wood Awards in 2023.
Flo's courses are in English.
